Lt. Col. Mengistu Haile Mariam Accuses U.S. & NATO

Footage of Lt. Colonel Mengistu Haile Mariam, the Ethiopian Head of State, threatening to break off relations with member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), for supporting Somalia in the war in the Ogaden region. He also accused the United States of indirectly arming Somalian troops.

Speaking to foreign journalists at a news conference in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, Col. Mengistu claimed that American arms had been discovered in territory recaptured by Ethiopian forces. He identified the intermediary states like Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and what he termed "other reactionary Arab regimes".
