Awasa, also known as Hawassa, is a city in central Ethiopia’s Great Rift Valley. It is located on the eastern shore of the sizable Lake Awasa, which is home to some hippos.
Around a well-known fish market on the lake’s edge, water birds congregate. Monkeys live in the nearby Amora Gedel National Park, which sits beside the water.
