On his Facebook page, Ephrem Sasa wrote, “Her courageous decision was extremely difficult and demanding, requiring time, finances, stamina, a lifetime commitment, and attention to underprivileged autistic children and their respective hopeless parents.”
He exclaimed, “The outcome was profound and decisive!” What an inheritance she left behind! Ethiopia’s Minister of Health, Dr. Lia Tadesse, tweeted that she was “devastated to learn we lost Zemi Yenus to it” after describing her as “kind and passionate.”
Dr. Lia continued, “I extend my deepest condolences to her family, colleagues, and loved ones.” Eleni Zewed Gebre-Medhin, a prominent Ethiopian economist, described Zami as “a beautiful soul and a treasure for Ethiopia.” Eleni wrote on Facebook, “[I’m] very sad that it has claimed yet another victim. Please accept my deepest condolences.”
Close to 4,000 Ethiopians have died from the fatal respiratory disease. Rosa Hoekastra stated on her Facebook page that the autism community had “lost a titan.”
