The priests of New Melleray Nunnery are the authors of Trappist Coffins. They are Trappists, Request for Cistercians of the Severe Recognition priests who are members of the Roman Catholic Church.
In Ireland, New Melleray Convent was planned by the priests at Mt. Melleray Convent in 1849, when there was a terrible famine.
We adhere to the archaic religious Rule of St. Benedict as Cistercians. In line with this standard, our work is shown through a life of prayer, service to the community, and physical work. Living simply is one of the signs of our lives.
In 1999, New Melleray Convent laid Trappist coffins to rest, and soon after, it began directly selling coffins and urns to grieving families at reduced prices.
