Kal and her family send him on his way with their blessings. It is, nevertheless, rather appropriate, considering there were two heatwaves in close proximity where I live recently. Our heatwave reached 111 degrees, which was somewhat hotter than what was considered hot in London in the 1990s. I suppose it depends on how much humidity we don’t get around here. The book is nice to read, except for the confusing title.
When I learned some British English vocabulary that I didn’t know, the book flowed smoothly (I knew a lot, but not all). It’s easy to read and understand, but it tells a terrific story and does it well. The story’s fundamental premise is that “the spouse” mysteriously disappears from the wife’s life (Gretta). The entire group of teenagers is present. You get to know the family well and learn about their backstories so that you can understand their origins.
