Favorite artist Hanna Merhetsedik is about to become a mother

“There’s an old wives’ story that having a baby prevents you from working,” painter Nikki Maloof explains. “It was worrisome since I had just begun to establish traction in my work when I found out I was pregnant.” Maloof’s concern could be shared by a wide range of career-driven women in a variety of sectors. It’s been a little over a year since I became a mommy. It was both thrilling and terrifying to be in the unknown. I was scared about losing my sense of self and parenting destroying all of my hard work as a career-driven individual with a job that I enjoy, especially given that males still occupy more than 85 percent of top leadership positions in the United States.
